Aham Brahmasmi

''When there is duality one sees something, one smells something, one tastes something, one speaks something, one hears something, one thinks of something, one touches something and one knows something. When everything has become the Self, what is to be seen and by what, what is to be smelt and by what, what is to be tasted and by what, what is to be communicated and by what, what is to be heard and by what, what is to be thought and by what, what is to be touched and by what, what is to be known and by what? What can help one to know the Self by whom the world is known. The Self is described as 'Not this, Not this'. The Self is imperceptible for It is not pereceived. The Self is undecaying for It never decays. The Self is unattached for It never attaches [to the worldly objects]. The Self is confined for It never feels pain and never perishes. Oh Maitreyi! What can help one to know the Self, the knowledge incatnate? Thus you have got instruction. Oh Maitreyi! This is the means of salvation.'' Saying this Yajnavalkya adopted the fourth stage of life. - Brihadaranyaka Upanishada 4/5/15.
